In 2021, the Center for Law and Social Justice at Medgar Evers College (CLSJ) launched an eleven-week Civic Engagement virtual course called Advocacy Academy. This program trained participants on how they could be the change they want to see in their communities. Targeted to Black New Yorkers aged 18 and up, the course covered a number of key areas for activists in the making including: issue organizing, roles and duties of elected officials and government agencies, techniques and strategies for influencing policy, funding support memos and more.
This course is specifically designed to meet the particular advocacy needs of Black New Yorkers in communities of African descent and the disenfranchised who believe they can make a difference (but they just don’t know how to do so yet).
Led by the esteemed Celeste Morris, CEO of MorrisAllsop Public Affairs Inc., a dynamic communicator with extensive leadership experience in government and business, this program is a MUST for anyone interested in making real changes in their communities.
